SYT’s annual Summer Shakespeare Festival returns to the Crane Theater for its third consecutive year, to present in rotating-repertory Shakespeare’s two magical, late-period romance masterpieces: The Tempest and The Winter’s Tale.

THE WINTER’S TALE

Once upon a time, there was a King....

The King had the cleverest, most beautiful wife in Sicilia. Her name was Queen Hermione and she was about to have a baby.

The King also had the most funny, loyal friend in all the world. His name was Polixenes, and he visited King Leontes and Queen Hermione for nine months.

So begins The Winter's Tale, at once an intimate fairy tale and a majestic, sea-spanning myth.

King Leontes and Queen Hermione have an idyllic marriage and happy life... until the King overhears a friendly exchange between his best friend Polixenes and Queen Hermione and becomes possessed by a jealous rage.

The King's growing suspicions rip his young family apart and alter the course of history forever.

A stirringly modern love story that imagines the possibility of grace and redemption at the furthest extremes of human folly,  The Winter’s Tale is a stunning story that crosses seas and decades, showcasing Shakespeare at the height of his literary powers.

Don't miss Shakespearean Youth Theatre's breathtaking tale of jealousy, love, and astonishing grace.

Performing July 26 - August 3, 2025 at the Crane Theater in Minneapolis.

The Crane Theater is located at 2303 Kennedy St NE UNIT 120, Minneapolis, MN 55413 (behind the yellow door).

THE TEMPEST

"When did you lose your daughter?”
”In this last Tempest…”

Shipwrecked on the shores of a remote island, the King of Naples and his closest advisors face certain death. The King’s son was last overboard in the storm; there is no hope of rescue.

But all is not as it appears on the island. The isle is home to “strange noises…” and a cast of magical inhabitants, who may have had something to do with the recent Tempest…

The magician Prospero, once Duke of Milan, also lives on the island and has a few plans up his sleeve for the unsuspecting King.

A hilarious and heartwarming story of getting lost and finding our way back to one another, The Tempest has stood the test of time as one of Shakespeare’s most-loved dramas.

Boasting Shakespeare’s finest breathtaking poetry and rowdiest comedy, The Tempest has something for everyone to enjoy.
